Is any replaygain information (for use e.g. by the winamp plugin) put into an mpc file without having to run replaygain on the encoded files later? It would seem possible / sensible. At least this should be practical on a track-by-track basis as each track is encoded, rather than based on whole-album sound levels --- this would at least be a good starting point for normalising playback sound levels (replaygain need not be enabled in winamp if the user doesn't want sound levels altered during playback based on the information, and could later overwrite the track-by-track information with album-based information).
Thanks, Mike PS If so, from what version of the mpc encoder did this apply? |

There's no single version of mppenc doing what you describe. You do need to use replaygain
