Default Rockbox on iPod progress: playback works, MPC plays realtime

Just yesterday the alternative open iPod firmware from Rockbox, an early but fast progressing project, got proper playback support, and already Musepack playback works in realtime. The Rockbox guys and preglow in particular don't cease to raise eyebrows .

It seems like in the not so far future, lots of iPod users tired of Apple's interface and their lack of support for codecs they're not personally involved with, will be able to enjoy high quality Musepack playback on the road.

i just wanted to update this thread with rockbox progress.

currently (2006-12-10), decoding of musepack on rockbox is very stable.

rockbox also supports fast seeking of musepack files and the musepack decoder is one of the fastest formats on rockbox (sharing with mp3 and flac).

things are looking good!
